About Us

LiftLeft Foundation is a community-based nonprofit initiative dedicated to advancing educational equity by addressing an often-overlooked barrier faced by left-handed students. Each year, LiftLeft distributes 700 high-quality, left-hand-optimized backpacks to students in underserved urban communities across the United States.

Each backpack includes purpose-designed school supplies such as left-handed scissors, reversed-spiral notebooks, ergonomic writing tools, and grade-appropriate academic essentials. These supplies are intentionally designed to appear culturally normal and discreet, allowing students to fully participate in classroom activities without stigma.

Left-handed students represent approximately 10–12% of the student population, yet the vast majority of school supplies are designed exclusively for right-handed use. This structural design bias contributes to discomfort, reduced efficiency, frustration, and long-term confidence issues—particularly for students in low-income communities who cannot afford specialty supplies.

LiftLeft Foundation exists to close this gap. By removing physical and psychological barriers to learning, LiftLeft empowers students to focus on achievement rather than adaptation, helping ensure that a child’s academic success is determined by potential—not by which hand they write with.
